When we talk about stretch marks, we are not only referring to pregnant women. Though in most cases pregnancy is the main cause for these unwanted streaks, men can also suffer from this when they gain weight. Stretch marks occur when the dermis or the middle layer of the skin is being stretched.  The skin will be scarred when healed.  Typically stretch marks appear as white or brown streaks.

The skin naturally has collagen and elastin fibers that help the skin repair itself.  However, if your body is changing in size rapidly, then the skin will lose it’s natural ability to rebuild broken elastin tissues.

Unfortunately, stretch marks can never be undone.  However, there are stretch mark home remedies that may lighten up the marks. It is true that stretch marks can eventually fade away with time, but only if you follow the suggested methods.  Here are the three stretch mark home remedies:

Exfoliating dead skin cells at least once a week.  This can help you lighten up the marks and it can even out your skin tone too. You can use whatever exfoliating method you choose. It can be an apricot scrub, oatmeal scrub, Loofah, wash cloth or sea salt.

When scrubbing your body, you have to be very careful with sensitive areas like the breasts and thighs.  You should use gentler options such as a wash cloth or use a milk bath liquid soap to do the trick for you.  This is advisable for those with sensitive skin.

Moisturizing the stretch mark affected parts daily is the best stretch mark home remedy. When you do this daily, you give the skin the privilege of always being hydrated.  This increases the chances of the scar healing.

You should apply lotions, creams, and oil to your skin.  You can choose among Vitamin E oils, jojoba oil, cocoa butter, rosehip oil, extra virgin olive or coconut oil, aloe vera etc or may even combine some of them for better results. You can choose among other oils too but please stay away from fragrance oil, baby oil, or petroleum jelly.  These alternatives are incapable of retaining by the skin so, the hydrating abilities are negligible.

Based on studies, people who exercise on a regular basis are less prone to stretch marks.  Exercising regularly will firm your body and your skin.  Once the skin becomes firmer, stretch marks can fade faster.
