Finding a stand alone maternity insurance is a very difficult task not unless you live somewhere in NY, NH, MA, VT and ME or you belong to a group health insurance plan.

Most of the medical related plans that we have around no longer have maternity coverage. There are still some maternity health insurance plans but they usually charge an extra amount. Some plans charge a normal amount and makes people think that they include the maternity option. In the end of course, you will realize that the benefit they offered was extremely limited and usually, it’s like getting back what you paid and sometimes less.

Once you tried computing how much money you really saved by having a maternity insurance, you’ll ask yourself why did you even bother obtaining a maternity insurance. Why would you want pregnancy insurance when most of the complications of pregnancy are already covered by most health insurance?

Some of the reasons why wanting to have maternity insurance is a waste of time and money is because of the restrictions it has, example:

· You need to wait for at least 12 months or 1 year to get pregnant.

· You are still required to pay out of the pocket amount between $5,000 and $8,000.

Why would you want maternity insurance if there are better plans available that will even reduce your expenses like the limited benefit plans and advocacy services?

Limited benefit plan is a health insurance plan that covers maternity the same way they cover your usual health problems as a part of health insurance. Even though this type of plan is not available in all of the states, they can still be a great maternity insurance alternative. Advocacy Services is a great alternative even for someone who is already pregnant. They negotiate extremely low rates or delivery services including lab fees.

How about get yourself a Group Health Insurance? Almost all group health insurance offer maternity plans for employed individuals. If you are self-employed you might find difficulties finding a group health insurance plan. Being already pregnant is not a problem; this type of insurance will still cover you even though you are already pregnant.

Aside from having a Group Health Insurance, Advocacy Services and the Limited Benefit Plan offers a MaternityCard that is well accepted and is made to provide help to pregnant women. It is less expensive and covers a wide spectrum of maternity medical needs.
